Description/Abstract:
The general features of the zirconium rich corner of the zirconium-uranium-yttrium phase diagram have been determined. There exists a ternary eutectoid at about 550° C. Above this, there exist two large regions which cover most of the zirconium rich corner of the diagram. They are a three-phase tube representing the equilibrium between alpha zirconium, yttrium, and gamma, and a two-phase region, gamma plus yttrium. These regions are made evident in vertical and horizontal sections through the zirconium rich corner.
