Description/Abstract:
At the last information meeting and in report Ck 1453 I gave values for the effective radius of plutonium relative to uranium and rare earth elements in corresponding valence states. The close crystal chemical similarity to uranium has been more or less assumed in the past, while the similarity of tetravalent and trivalent plutonium to rare earth elements La-Sm in corresponding valence states is a new result of considerable interest. I have as a consequence undertaken an extensive study of the crystal chemistry of rare earth compounds which should give valuable information applicable to plutonium compounds.
