Description/Abstract:
A method is described for quantitative measurement of Cu64, without chemical separation, in a mixture of reactor effluent water radioisotopes. The method is based on the measurement of the annihilation radiations from Cu64 positron decay. The sample to be measured is placed between 2 NaI(Tl) detectors, and the coincident positron annihilation photons are measured by means of a coincidence-gamma-ray spectrometer. Na22, a long-lived positron emitting isotope, serves as a permanent standard for determining the overall geometry of the apparatus prior to a Cu64 determination.
