Abstract
For the investigation of toxic effects on outdoor experiments, we selected rotifers as zooplanctonic testorganisms and Lindane and Kalium-Ethylxanthogenate as model-test-chemicals. In a 10 days screening-test, the insecticide Lindane caused a considerable reduction of rotifers at concentrations in the range of 0,02 and 0,5 mg/l pondwater. A one week test with Xanthogenate (2 resp. 10 mg/l) for the identification of a toxic threshold concentration also showed a drastic reduction of the rotifer population. Furthermore the influence by these chemicals on the complete phyto- and zooplanctonic biomass was tested in 1000 litre ''enclosures'' for several weeks. After repeated doses of about 2 mg/l Xanthogenate, a considerable decrease in algae, dapnids and rotifers was found.
