Structure of the National Coal Board. 4. The Opencast Executive

Journal Article:

Abstract

The development of the Executive's organization is summarized against the background of the many problems with which they have had to deal over the 23 years of their existence--not least the problems which have arisen as a result of the various changes in national policy towards the coal industry as a whole over the period. The Executive's organization has been amended and adapted over the years as circumstances required and no doubt there will need to be further changes from time to time in the future. But now, there are brighter prospects for coal than for many years, and opencast mining is firmly set on a course of expansion essential to the full realization of the coal industry's long-term objectives. The human and organizational resources on which this expansion can be based have now been made available within the Executive and, if these resources can be effectively utilized, the opencast coal mining industry can look forward to a secure and prosperous future.
