Abstract
When the autopsy findings of a patient who had died of cardiac failure 23 months after the beginning of the treatment suggested that the heart disease had been caused by the radiotherapy and/or the treatment with cytostatics, all in- and out- patients of the hospital treated for Hodgkin's disease in 1974 were examined retrospectively of a total of 105 patients, 10 presented with pathological cardiac findings that had not been observed prior to treatment. All patients had undergone mediastinal radiotherapy with a focal dose of at least 4,000 R. The therapeutic steps to be taken in such cases should depend on the haemodynamic effects of the treatment.
