Abstract
In the past, Osaka Gas left the task of minimising costs to the individual production plants, which were independent of one another. The creation of a supraregional supply network and the enlargement of the production plants, however, opened up new possibilities for operational control. Today, the production costs are mainly determined by central production planning. The comprehensive and complicated cost structures can no longer be encompassed by means of simple evaluation methods. The implementation of computer-controlled optimisation systems to assist production planning has therefore become more and more important. The advantages of mixed-integer programming and artificial intelligence were combined in a system for the creation of optimised production plans. (orig/BWI)
