Aging nickel alloy with low coefficient of expansion for thermical stress

Abstract

For the main parts of the comprex pressure-wave super-charger namely the rotor and mantle heat resistant materials with a low coefficient of thermal expansion are necessary. For this purpose an iron-nickel-base alloy (Fe-43% Ni-2% Co-2% Ti and 0,5% Nb) has been developed. This material is available as a cast or wrought alloy. The presence of Ti and Nb provides a precipitation hardening effect. Hardening curves have been determined as a function of temperature and time and the corresponding changes in the microstructure investigated. Effects of aging time and temperature on physical and mechanical properties have been discussed.
