Mathematical modelling of wake interaction in wind turbine arrays. Part 1. Description and evaluation of the mathematical model

Abstract

This report gives a general description of a computermodel (MILLY) which can be used to calculate the mean velocity field within a cluster of wind turbines and thus to predict the power reduction caused by wake interaction effects. The predictions of this computermodel and those of two earlier models are compared with experimental data obtained by static wind turbine simulators. It is concluded that the model predictions are close to the measurement results so that engineering estimates of power output of wind turbine clusters can be made.
