Abstract
A potential landslide of approximately 350,000 m{sup 3} is located on the right bank of the Rhone, above the barrage created by the Genissiat Dam, approximately 7 kilometers upstream from the built-up area of Bellegarde-sur-Valserine. Thishas led the Compagnie Nationale du Rhone to constantly supervise the area and to carry out various studies intended to draw up a set of urgent operating procedures in order to avoid any damage for the inhabitants. The aim of the reduced-model study described here is to determine the consequences of a landslide on the Genissiat barrage and on the town of Bellegarde-sur-Valserine and thus enable operating procedures to be clearly defined.
