Abstract
The energy development in the Third wold in the 1980's has taken very different routes. The complex economic and politic problems of these countries are still linked with the structure and level of energy consumption. In many cases the demographic pressure ruins the economic successes that were achieved. Providing fuels for the increasing population aggravates environmental problems as investments for the reduction of pollutants occupy the last place on the list of priorities. In addition there are the poverty-linked problems arising from the uncontrolled cutting down of tropical forests and the clear cutting of woods and forests in the vicinity of cities also known as the fuel crisis.
