Adaptable water-spraying nozzles for extinguishing underground mine fires

Abstract

Discusses requirements made on water streams and water spraying nozzles used in extinguishing underground mine fires (dual-phase water/air stream, long-range water stream, symmetrical water stream). Discusses a nozzle developed at the VMEI Lenin research institute in Bulgaria. A cross-section of the adaptable water-spraying nozzle, built of a stationary casing and a rotating water-stream regulator, is presented. Capacity is 1-8 l/s, outlet pressure of water stream is 0.1-0.5 MPa and range of water stream is 0-40 m. 9 refs.
