Abstract
This work studies the relationship between pre-strain levels in a AISI 304 stainless steel and the aging induced stress. Pre-strain levels between 2.5 and 17% were applied with a strain rate of 10{sup -2} and aging 473 K aging temperature. Differently from results existent in the literature, the present work indicated that the applicability of these models depends on the pre-strain levels below 12%. A saturation was observed above this level. A critical models analysis is presented considering that both models do not consider the possible influence on strain aging of vacancy-solute pair reorientation by the dislocation stress field 8 refs., 6 figs., 5 tabs.
