Shaft torsional oscillation interactions between turbo-generators in parallel in series compensated transmission systems

Abstract

Several investigators have raised the possibility of interaction between shaft systems of parallel units, particularly among identical units. The question addressed in this paper is the significance of this interaction between shaft systems of units coupled through the electrical system. A time domain model of two parallels units connected to an infinite bus trough a series compensated transmission is used to evaluate the phenomena. The same model is used to extract pertinent frequency response functions by Fourier processing of pulse response tests from which a frequency response analysis is performed to lend additional insight into the phenomena.
