Today`s coal industry: improving the perception of our image is key to our survival

Abstract

The coal industry has a bad image where environmental effects are concerned despite massive investment in pollution control systems, but although the investments have been made, the coal industry`s public relations have been very poor. The coal industry`s voice must be heard. The public relations battle was lost on acid rain, and it is being lost on global warming, regardless of the scientific facts. The public should be told about the new clean coal technologies, and that using coal avoids the energy security problems of natural gas and oil. One way of spreading the message is to make contact with schools. There is certainly no need to fabricate a good image - the coal industry definitely is cleaner than it was ten years ago.
