The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) requires the signatory countries to develop, periodically update, publish and make available to the Conference of the Parties national inventories of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by sources and removals by sinks, using comparable methodologies as well as to formulate policies and programmes to adapt to or mitigate climate change. Following the entree-into-force of the Convention, the Government of Burkina Faso requested the Danish Government to provide technical assistance and support in order to assess national contributions to global GHG accumulation and to identify the most relevant GHG mitigation and adaptation options for national target-setting and action. This report presents the results of the Phase 1 of the project. The report summarises: (i) the national inventory on GHG emissions and sinks; (ii) a preliminary forecast of GHG emissions and possible mitigation options, and (iii) a first attempt to analyse the vulnerability and possible adaptation strategies to climate change.
