Exclusive hadronic decays of B mesons

Abstract

Using the ARGUS detector at the e{sup +}e{sup -} storage ring DORIS II, we have measured B decays into exclusive final states containing a D or D* meson plus several pions, or containing a J/{psi} or {psi}' meson plus a strange particle. Some of these channels have not been seen before, while others represent updated measurements of previous results. The branching ratios are compared with the predictions of the model of Bauer, Stech and Wirbel. Using the cleanest decay channels, the mass of the charged and neutral B meson are found to be msub(B{sup -})=(5280.5{plus minus}1.0{plus minus}2.0) MeV/c{sup 2} and msub(B{sup 0})=(5279.6{plus minus}0.7{plus minus}2.0) MeV/c{sup 2} respectively, yielding a mass difference msub(B{sup 0})-msub(B{sup -})=(-0.9{plus minus}1.2{plus minus}0.5) MeV/c{sup 2}.
