Possibility of element extraction separation in alkaline media. [Extraction separation of Am, Cm, Cf, Bk from La, Ce, Sm, Eu, Gd, Th, Pa, U, Pu, Zr, Nb, Cs, Ru, Fe]

Abstract

Extraction of a number of transplutonium elements (Am, Cm, Cf, Bk) as well as La, Ce, Sm, Eu, Gd, Th, Pa, U, Pu, Zr, Nb, Cs, Ru, Fe using solution 4 (..cap alpha.., ..cap alpha..-dioctyethyl) of pyrocatechol (DOP) in toluene from highly alkaline solutions in the presence of diethylene-triaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) to find conditions for their separation is studied. It is shown that the degree of element separation can be increased varying the time of the phase mixture, the medium alkalinity as well as changing the extragent concentration. The DOP-NaOH-DTPA system proved to be perspective for the separation of TPE from rare earth fission products, actinide elements as well as for Am and Cm separation from Bk and others.
