Load data collection in a changing multi-vendor environment

Abstract

Metering equipment is used to measure energy usage for electric and gas customers. Traditional meters are measuring devices that provide the basic data for billing energy. However, these basic meters do not provide information about how energy is used over a period of time. This document provides a history of recorders, as well as the evolution and availability of technology as it relates to data retrieval, handheld reader hardware, data base design, operations, communications, data validation, and central station hardware.
