Abstract
In order to produce 2 formations with a single well, various double completions are used. One procedure uses 2 parallel 2-in. tubing strings separated by packers. In some cases, production flows in both strings; in other cases, one formation flows while the other is pumped, while sometimes both formations are pumped. Among the main advantages of such completions are that paraffin can readily be scraped from tubing, while the main disadvantage is that 2 sets of equipment are used, 2 tubing strings, pump units, etc. This problem was solved by using one tubing string and mounting 2 pumps on one sucker rod string. Part of the sucker rod string in this arrangement is hollow. A schematic diagram and description of this equipment are given. The method has been successfully tested in the field.
