The decrease of the mains voltage distortion by means of network filters

Abstract

This article is intended for readers who are not daily involved in harmonic voltage distortion in the mains. General aspects are indicated, such as: the already existing levels of harmonic voltage distortion in the mains and the maximum permissible contribution to it by each consumer; interaction of the filter network with the impedance of the mains; an analysis of an existing industrial network loaded with 40 MVA thyristor controlled power supplies; the design parameters of an imaginary harmonic filter in a part of this network. 6 figs., 1 tab.
