Abstract
Public attitude, 'beliefs' and risk perception are investigated by a public opinion poll. Imaginations about social and environmental impacts caused by electric power generation are negative but somewhat vague concerning nuclear power, much more positive concerning coal burning, however lack of knowledge on this application was evident. Nuclear accidents were believed to be disastrous. A severe nuclear accident is easier to imagine as the distance is shorter. No correlation is found between conceivability and probability of severe accidents and their consequences. (A.V.)
