Development of oil pools with edge and bottom water

Abstract

In the development of massive oil pool of normal cyclothem with sufficient reservoir energy and active edge and bottom water drive, the primary means of controlling the appearance of secondary bottom water and the intervention of water coning is to perforate only the upper part of the reservoir at limited interval so as to prolong the period of production and increase the amount of output without water cut. In the course of development, reasonable control of pressure difference of production should be accompanied by a higher intensity of fluid withdrawal at the wells around the edge of the pool than that in the interior wells as far as possible in order to abate the speed the channelling of edge and bottom water along the bottom of the pool. When secondary bottom water appears and serious water coning occurs near the bottom of the hole, a part of oil wells in the net pay section may be selected for water injection to check the expansion of secondary bottom water and the progress of bottom water coning. From our experience, this way of development has contributed greatly to the reasonable utilization of reservoir energy and improvement of efficiency of developement that end  More>>
