Coal science and technology 1. Geochemistry of coal

Abstract

This handbook should provide answers to questions that were previously studied by chemistry, mineralogy, and geochemistry and now fall into the scope of geochemistry. Evaluated are factors controlling the formation of coal, geochemical views of the alteration of plant material during coalification under biochemical and geochemical conditions, geochemical principles governing the concentration and circulation of trace elements in coal, and the study of structural-chemical relations. The new edition contains updated information, additional information ca organic substances in peat and coal, as well as a chapter on the paleosalinity of the environment (distribution of trace elements, amino acids, alkanes in clays from marine freshwater sediments, and brackish environments). 400 references, 72 figures, 44 tables.
