Abstract
The development of a method for the reduction of the use of energy and material based on the systematic structure analysis of characteristics determined by measurements and the study of the literature: of the external and internal use of energy and material, and the compared possibilities of reduction. Starting from the basis of production technique, one must first answer the questions in which form energy and material are used in a wide range of production and which decision-makers are involved in deciding this. Detailing the energy and material flows step by step, a central descriptive model is developed for the use of energy and material. Analysing the product life, particularly creation of the product; the decision levels relevant for the use of energy and material are shown. These structure criteria form an important element for systematising the possibilities of reduction. Based on this knowledge, work techniques and aids are developed for the individual work contents of the method and these are compiled and extracts are shown as examples. The method should contain work techniques and aids for the practical engineer, who has the task of optimising an existing product or a concrete manufacturing plant regarding low use of energy and
