Engineering geology of Southern Africa. Vol. 4. Post-Gondwana deposits

Abstract

The present volume examines geological formations which originated during the break-up and drift phases. Some of these, such as the Cretaceous mudrocks and the Tertiary limestones, take the form of consolidated strata, but most have undergone limited diagenesis and cementation and take the form of transported soils of various origins. The engineer often has to design his structure to be built on - and sometimes of - these transported soils. The engineer founding a structure on transported soil also needs to know the nature of the underlying residual soil. This volume is an exhibit of geological and geotechnical information collected from many sources over a period of many years.
