Abstract
Discusses use of polyurethanes and phenol-formaldehydes for sealing ventilation barriers and voids in underground workings in coal mines. Standard mixtures used in the USSR, their composition and components are comparatively evaluated. The evaluations concentrate on health hazards to coal miners. The following aspects of polyurethane and phenol-formaldehyde use are analyzed: noxious components, component storage, mixing, foaming, hardening, emission of vapors and gases from hardening mixture, time dependence of noxious emission, effects of air velocity, air humidity and other factors on noxious emission, methods for reducing the noxious emission, health hazards to coal miners associated with the noxious emission.
