Details and current status of the study on radioactive ray hormesis. Hoshasen hormesis kenkyu no keii to genjo

Abstract

Specialists are gradually increasing in America and in other countries who have been studying the effect of low level radioactive ray exposure on the suppression of the occurrence of natural cancers and leuKemia. A material which is toxic in a large quantity but has desirable stimulation and acceleration effects on man and animal if the quantity is small is called 'hormesis.' Based on the data obtained from many animal experiments and analyses made by irradiation to cancer patients as well as on the assertion made by domestic and overseas experts, phenomena caused by low level radioactive ray exposure and mechanism of hormesis effect of radioactive rays, if any, are arranged although the study is still in a stage of inference. With the objective of pursuing facts, this study will be continued in the future. A committee for the study of hormesis has been established and run under the guidance of many instructors. An international symposium was held in Tokyo on November 20, 1991. 3 figs., 1 tab.
