Research of the absolute: the colloquium of Tautavel on datation in prehistory

Abstract

Physicists, biochemists and paleontologists from all over the world met in Tautavel (France) to study datation methods applied to the Caune de l'Arago Cave. Only a relatively small section is devoted to radioactive isotope datation (p. 54-56). Use of uranium-thorium 230 and of spectrometry for U/Th ratio determination are briefly described. Variations in results due to geochemistry are discussed. Thermoluminescence, electron spin resonance and fission tracks are also examined.
