A monitoring and protective system for mine hoists using a microprocessor

Abstract

In view of the existing problems of depth indicators and tachometers currently used in mine hoists, a measuring technique using a 'wire cable magnetic stripe' and a tentative proposal for a monitoring system with a microprocessor are described. The system can be used for measuring and indicating the depth, speed of the hoisting system, and can provide protection against overwinding, overspeeding and slack rope as well as monitoring the direction of hoisting.
