Abstract

A FORTRAN program is presented for the use of digital terrain elevation models with raster format of the Instituto Nacional de Estadistica, Geografia e Informatica of Mexico (INEGI). This program allows the selection of a data window that can be delimited, optionally, giving the extreme coordinates in degrees, minutes and seconds or in UTM (Universal Transversal Mercator) coordinates. Digital terrain data are selected to produce an output file in SURFER binary grid format with decimal degrees coordinates. Optionally an x, y, z output file in ASCII code permits the griding with commercial software to produce a map with planar rectangular coordinates. During the window selection a simple filtering process is performed to diminish numerical errors of the original file, and if it is wanted, an undersampling can be conducted to prepare less detailed maps of great coverage. This program has been extensively tested in the Gerencia de Proyectos Geotermoelectricos de la Comision federal de Electricidad (CFE) in Mexico, where it is used to prepare base maps, automatically traced topographic profiles and boundary condition for thermal modelling. Another direct uses are the calculus of terrain and isostatic corrections for gravity studies, topographic height estimating based on known horizontal coordinates, climatic effects  More>>

[Espanol] Se presenta un programa FORTRAN para el uso de modelos digitales de elevacion del terreno con el formato raster del Instituto Nacional de Estadistica, Geografia e Informatica de Mexico (INEGI). El programa permite la seleccion de una ventana de datos, la cual puede elegirse optativamente dando las coordenadas extremas en coordenadas geograficas en grados, minutos y segundos o en coordenadas UTM (proyeccion Universal Transversa de Mercator). Se seleccionan los datos del modelo digital y se produce una rejilla lista para su despliegue en formato binario UTM cuyo enrejillado permite producir un mapa en coordenadas planas rectangulares en metros. Durante la delimitacion de la ventana se hace un filtrado simple para disminuir los errores numericos que existen en el archivo y si se desea puede elegirse un submuestreo de los datos para preparar mapas menos detallados pero de gran cobertura. El programa ha sido desarrollado y probado extensamente en la Gerencia de Proyectos Geotermoelectricos de la Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) de Mexico, en donde se utiliza en estudios regionales para la elaboracion de mapas base, el trazo automatico de perfiles topograficos y el calculo de condiciones de frontera para modelos termicos. Otros usos directos son el calculo de las correcciones por rugosidad o la estimacion de efectos isostaticos en estudios gravimetricos, la estimacion de cotas topograficas para puntos de coordenadas horizontales conocidas, el modelado termico de efectos climaticos en funcion de la topografia, el calculo automatico de volumenes de material y muchos otros.}
