New technologies for the reduction of the use of fossil fuels in automobiles; Nuevas tecnologias para la reduccion del uso de combustibles fosiles en automoviles

Abstract

The new technologies developed for the reduction of the use of fossil fuels in automobiles can be classified by the way these try to reduce the use of energy. In the search for the technologies for the conservation of it the environmental problem is added, that although it is not the subject of this presentation results decisive for the evaluation of the performance of type of technology. The development of technologies in this field has followed three basic tendencies. First: The efficient improvement of internal combustion motors, which consist in the control and constant monitoring the functioning of these motors in order to determine the strictly necessary consumption for the motor operation in accordance with its load conditions. Second, the development of a system that utilizes alternate fuels, as is the case of hybrid vehicles, that utilize gas turbines that can burn these fuels. Third the development of electric driven and energy regeneration systems avoiding the use of fossil fuels. A fourth tendency could be considered, which consists in determining the best way of controlling and using the transportation time, with all the implicit benefits. The purpose of this paper is to answer all these questions beginning with a detailed  More>>

A fourth tendency could be considered, which consists in determining the best way of controlling and using the transportation time, with all the implicit benefits. The purpose of this paper is to answer all these questions beginning with a detailed revision of the main technological innovations developed by the leading car manufacturers at world level, such as BMW, Mercedes Benz, Ford, etc. concerned in bringing to the market the best vehicles that burn less or none fossil fuels and at the same time comply with the every day more strict standards on the environmental pollution subject. Through these innovations the advantages and disadvantages of each one of them are set forth, with special emphasis in the technologies that, to our concern, will be the most convenient to promote in the years to come. [Espanol] Las nuevas tecnologias desarrolladas para la reduccion del uso de combustibles fosiles en automoviles se pueden caracterizar por la manera en que estas tratan de reducir el consumo de los energeticos. En la busqueda de estas tecnologias para el ahorro de estos, se suma el problema ambiental que, aunque no sea el de tecnologias en este campo ha seguido tres tendencias basicas. Primero, el aumento en la eficiencia de los motores de combustion interna, el cual consiste en el control y monitoreo constante del funcionamiento de estos motores con el fin de poder determinar el consumo estrictamente necesario del motor, de acuerdo a sus condiciones de carga. Segundo, el desarrollo de sistemas que usen combustibles alternos, como es el caso de los vehiculos hibridos, que emplean turbinas que puedan funcionar con estos combustibles. Tercero, el desarrollo de sistemas electricos de propulsion y regeneracion de energia evitando usar combustibles fosiles. Se podria hablar de una cuarta tendencia, la cual consiste en determinar la mejor manera de controlar y usar el transporte de modo altamente eficiente, tratando de disminuir el consumo de energeticos y aumentar el ahorro de tiempo en transporte, con todos sus beneficios implicitos. El presente trabajo tiene como proposito responder a estas cuestiones a partir de una revision detallada de las principales innovaciones tecnologicas desarrolladas por las principales armadoras a nivel mundial, como BMW, Mercedes Benz, Ford, etc., preocupadas por sacar al mercado mejores vehiculos que consuman menos o nada de combustibles fosiles y que, al mismo tiempo, cumplan mejor con las cada dia mas estrictas normas en materia de contaminacion ambiental. A partir de estas innovaciones se plantean las ventajas y desventajas de cada una de ellas, haciendo un especial enfasis en las tecnologias que, a nuestro juicio, seran las mas convenientes por impulsar en los proximos anos, de acuerdo con nuestra realidad nacional.}
