Quasicrystals and their applications; Los cuasicristales y sus posibles aplicaciones

Abstract

In this paper we offer a broad view of the specific properties of quasicrystals, highlighting those aspects which make them so different from conventional metallic alloys. We briefly review their structural and mechanical properties as well as the purported anomalies in their electrical and thermal transport properties. Taking into account all these properties, along with the progress in quasicrystalline materials obtention, we comment on some of their possible technological applications. (Author) 24 refs.
