Tests of expansion bellows - IWK bellow with a 300 mm diameter; Essais de soufflets de dilatation - Soufflet IWK de 300 mm de diametre

Abstract

This document comprises two technical notes. In the first one, and after having recalled test objectives, the authors present bellow characteristics as they are specified in various documents, and present the test program. They describe the actual geometry of a bellow wave. They present metal characteristics (yield strength and elasticity modulus), and bellow characteristics under compression, and indicate how these characteristics are studied. They discuss how the bellow reacts to pressure and indicate additional tests which have been designed to study this reaction. The bellow mechanical strength to internal pressure is also addressed. They finally report the interpretation of obtained results, and a comparison with the basic theory. The second document recalls objective and principles of new tests performed on bellows, indicates the various planned tests, indicates results obtained by failure tests, recalls some vocabulary related to occurring phenomena, and gives a summarized description of tests (first compression, return to initial status, and again until a fourth compression). Results are then discussed.
