Abstract
Among the main aims of the symposium were: (1) To show what has been and is being done in the Member States of the OAU, and to enable the delegates of the various countries to exchange views and experiences; (2) To identify and define the activities which could constitute the future plans for Member States, individually and jointly, as part of their development programs. The symposium itself was part of the continuing Organization of African Unity (OAU) activities aimed at encouraging and sponsoring the wider application of science and technology in the economic, social and political development of its Member States. The OAU already operates scientific bureaus dealing with animal health and development, soils and rural development, and plant health. Its future plans in science and technology include the establishment of Centres of Excellence for the training of personnel and for research and development in scientific disciplines, and the establishment of documentation centres for gathering,- analysing and disseminating scientific information to Member States. Among the main aims of the symposium were: (1) To show what has been and is being done in the Member States of the OAU, and to enable the delegates of the various countries to exchange views
