Abstract

The measurement of scattering laws for hydrogen-containing materials is of great importance as much for a better understanding of the thermalization of neutrons in such moderators as for a basic physical understanding of the dynamical behaviour of such systems. With the rotating crystal time-of-flight technique double differential scattering cross-sections for benzene, zirconium hydride and ordinary water vapour have been measured. These measurements have been performed with incident neutron energies between 0.018 and 0.06 eV and scattering angles between 20 Degree-Sign and 140 Degree-Sign . Measured Q-values cover the range from 0 to 15 A{sup -1} (here hQ is the momentum transfer). Scattering law data have been extracted from the measured cross-sections and were extrapolated with the help of LEAP and ADDELT calculations to meet energy and momentum transfer values not accessible directly by the experiments. In the cases of benzene and zirconium hydride also the generalized frequency distributions p({beta}) were determined by the extrapolation method. The results for water vapour are compared with theoretical calculations based on the Krieger-Nelkin theory and an improved theory of Griffing. Les auteurs ont mesure les sections efficaces differentielles de diffusion doubles pour le benzene, l'hydrure de zirconium et la vapeur d'eau ordinaire, par la methode du temps de vol faisant appel a un cristal tournant. Ils se sont servis de neutrons incidents d'une energie comprise entre 0, 018 et 0, 06 eV et d'angles de diffusion allant de 20 a 140 Degree-Sign . Les valeurs de Q mesurees couvrent la gamme comprise entre 0 et 15 A{sup -1}(bQ etant le transfert de quantite de mouvement). Les auteurs ont extrait les donnees relatives aux lois de diffusion des sections efficaces mesurees et les ont extrapolees a l'aide de calculs LEAP et ADDELT pour saisir les valeurs du transfert d'energie et du transfert de quantite de mouvement, auxquelles on n*a pas directement acces par voie experimentale. (author) [Spanish] La comprobacion experimental de las leyes de dispersion en lo que respecta a las sustancias hidrogenadas reviste considerable importancia porque contribuye a un mejor conocimiento del proceso de termali- zacion de los neutrones en moderadores de ese tipo y de los fundamentos fisicos del comportamiento dinamico de tales sistemas. Empleando un espectrometro de cristal rotatorio para medir tiempos de vuelo, se han determinado las secciones eficaces de dispersion diferencial doble correspondientes al benceno, hidruro de circonio y vapor de agua comun. Las mediciones se han efectuado con neutrones incidentes de energia comprendida entre 0, 018 y 0,06 eV, y con angulos de dispersion de 20 a 140 Degree-Sign . Los valores medidos de Q abarcan de 0 a 15 A{sup -1} (siendo nQ la transferencia del impulso). De las secciones eficaces medidas, se han deducido los datos relativos a las leyes de dispersion, los cuales se han extrapolado con ayuda de las claves de computo LEAP y ADDELT a fin de obtener los valores de la energia y del impulso que no pueden determinarse por via experimental directa. En el caso del benceno y del hidruro de circonio, tambien se determinaron por extrapolacion las distribuciones de las frecuencias generalizadas - p({beta}). S pomoshh'ju metoda izmerenija po vremeni proleta (vrashhajushhijsja kristall) byli izmereny dvojnye differencial'nye sechenija rassejanija dlja benzola, cirkonievogo gidrida i parov obychnoj vody. Jeti izmerenija byli osushhestvleny pri jenergijah bombardirujushhih nejtronov ot 0,018 do 0,06 jev i pri uglah rassejanija mezhdu 20 i 140 Degree-Sign . Izmerennye velichiny Q ohvatyvajut diapazon ot 0 do 15 A{sup -1} (zdes nQ - peredacha impul'sa). Dannye o zakone rassejanija byli vyvedeny iz izmerennyh poperechnyh sechenij i byli jekstrapolirovany s pomoshh'ju raschetov LEAP i ADDELT dlja poluchenija znachenij peredachi jenergii i impul'sa, kotorye nevozmozhno poluchit' neposredstvenno jeksperimental'nym putem. Metodom jekstrapoljacii byli opredeleny takzhe obobshhennye raspredelenija chastot r({beta}) dlja benzola i cirkonievogo gidrida. Rezul'taty dlja vodjanyh parov sravnivajutsja s teoreticheskimi raschetami, osnovannymi na teorii Krigera-Njelkina i na uluchshennoj teorii Griffinga. (author)}
