Abstract

The Lovanium University, Leopoldville, is working in close co-operation with the TRICO Centre, which operates a TRIGA reactor (General Atomics) with a maximum power output of 50 kW and distributes isotopes to the University's laboratories and ,other users. The elements are normally irradiated in the reactor's rotary specimen rack under a flux of 3 x 10{sup 11} n/cm{sup 2} s, but in some special cases they are placed in the central thimble where there are 2.5 x 10{sup 12} n/cm{sup 2}s at the point of maximum flux. As there are no facilities for the chemical treatment of highly-active substances the samples are irradiated in a suitable chemical form; gamma spectrometry (with a 400-channel analyser) is used to ensure that no unwanted isotopes are present. Counting is usually done with single-channel analysers. In the case of Cu{sup 64}, a device embodying twin detectors in coincidence has been used to check certain measurements. The multichannel analyser is to be used for experiments involving two radioactive tracers. (author) [French] L'Universite Lovanium de Leopoldville travaille en etroite collaboration avec le Centre TRICO, qui dispose d'un reacteur TRIGA (General Atomics) d'une puissance maximale de 50 kW et qui distribue des isotopes aux laboratoires de l'Universite pu a d'autres utilisateurs eventuels. Les irradiations se font generalement dans la couronne rotative (flux 3 * 10{sup 11} n/cm{sup 2} s. ); dans des caa speciaux le tube central est utilise (2,5 * 10{sup 12} n/cm{sup 2}s. au point de flux maximum). A cause de l'absence de moyens de manipulation chimique de substances tres actives on irradie les echantillons pous une forme cHiiriique appropriee; on verifie l'absence d'isotopes genants par spectrometrie gamma (analyseur a 400 canaux). Les comptages se font generalement au moyen d'analyseurs a un canal. Dans le cas du cuivre- 64 certaines mesures ont ete controlees par un dispositif a deux detecteurs en coiencidence. Pour les experiences utilisant deux indicateurs l'emploi de l'analyseur multicanauex a ete envisage. Parmi les utilisations, signalons: 1. au laboratoire de physiologie la determination des courbes de passage circulatoire, distribution et Cinetique de distribution de differents isotopes (sodium-24,potassium-42, cuivre-64); 2. au laboratoire de pharmacologie, l'etude de rihftuence de diverses conditions pharmacologiques sur les mouvements ioniques (potassium-42) ainsi que l'etude' de la fixation du cuiyre-64 par les muscles lisses et ses relations avec les actions pharmacologiques de ce ueetal; 3. au laboratoire de microbiologie de la Faculte agronomique, l'etude du role physiologique et de la repartition du molybdene dans les plantes (molybdene-99) ainsi que le controle de la mise au point de methodes microbiologiques pour la determination du molybdene. (author) [Spanish] La Universidad Lovanium de Leopoldville trabaja en estrecha colaboracion con el centro TRICO, que dispone de un reactor TRIGA (General Atomics) de una potencia maxima de 50 kW y distribuye isotopos a los laboratorios de la Universidad y a otros usuarios eventuales. Las irradiaciones se efectuan generalmente en la corona giratoria (flujo3 * 10{sup 11} n/cm{sup 2}s); en casos especiales, se utiliza el canal central (2,5 * 10{sup 12} n/cm{sup 2}s en el punto de flujo maximo). Como se carece de medios de manipulacion quimica para las sustancias muy activas, se procede a irradiar muestras consistentes en productos quimicos de forma adecuada ; la ausencia de isotopos no deseables se comprueba por espectrometria gamma (analizador de 400 canales). Los recuentos se efectuan generalmente con analizadores de un solo canal. En el caso del cobre-64 ciertas mediciones se han controlado con un dispositivo de dos detectores en coincidencia. Se ha previsto el empleo del analizador multicanal para los experimentos en que intervengan dos indicadores. El autor senala algunos de los fines para que se emplean los radioisotopos: 1. En el laboratorio de fisiologia: curvas de flujo circulatorio, distribucion y cinetica de la distribucion de diversos isotopos (sodio-24, potasio-42, cobre-64). 2. En el laboratorio de farmacologia: influencia de diversas condiciones farmacologicas sobre los desplazamientos de los iones (potasio-42); fijacion del cobre-64 por los musculos lisos y sus relaciones con la actividad farmacologica de este metal. 3. V sluchae s med'ju-64 nekotorye izmerenija byli prokontrolirovany s pomoshh'ju pribora iz dvuh schetchikov na sovpadenijah. V opytah s ispol'zovaniem dvuh indikatorov predusmotreno primenenie mnogokanal'nogo analizatora. Neobhodimo otmetit' primenenie mnogokanal'nogo analizatora v sledujushhih punktah: 1) v laboratorii fiziologii: krivye krovoobrashhenija, raspredelenie i kinetika raspredelenija razlichnyh izotopov (natrija-24, kalija-42, medi-64); 2) v laboratorii farmakologii: vlijanie razlichnyh farmakologicheskih uslovij na dvihenie ionov (kaliJ-42); fiksacija medi-64 gladkoj muskulaturoj i svjaz' s farmakologicheskim dejstviem jetogo metalla; 3) v laboratorii mikrobiologii agronomicheskogo fakul'teta: issledovanie fiziologicheskoj roli i raspredelenija molibdena v rastenijah (molibdena-99); kontrol' za razrabotkoj mikrobiologicheskih metodov opredelenija molibdena.
