Abstract

Young adult LAF{sub 1} mice received a single sublethal exposure to fission-spectrum neutrons, and were treated as follows: Group 1 - 195 to 199 rad, followed by a single subcutaneous injection of CCI{sub 4} one month later; Group II - CCl{sub 4} injected one day prior to neutron irradiation (280 - 329 rad); Group III - CCI{sub 4} only; no irradiation; Group IV - unilateral nephrectomy carried out one day before neutron irradiation (320 - 328 rad); Group V - neutron irradiation only (200 - 320 rad> In the Group I-mice, sacrificed 12-16 months post-irradiation, 75% exhibited hepatomas, while 92% of the mice in Group II showed hepatomas. By contrast, liver tumours appeared in 14% of mice receiving neutron irradiation only (Group V), and in 2.4% of mice exposed to a single dose (500 rad) of 250 kVp X-rays. The incidence of kidney neoplasms approached 100% in the uninephrectomized irradiated mice (Group IV), whereas such lesions were infrequent in control mice. The induction of these neoplasms is discussed in terms of initiation by the neutron radiation, and promotion by the specific proliferative stimuli exployed. (author) [French] On a expose a une dose sub letale unique de neutrons de fission des jeunes sujets adultes de souche LAF, que l'on a traites de la facon suivante: Groupe 1 - injection souscutanee de CCl{sub 4} un mois apres l 'exposition(195 a 199rad); Groupe II - injection de CCl{sub 4} un jour avant l'exposition aux neutrons (280 a 329 rad); Groupe III - CCl{sub 4} seulement, pas d'exposition; Groupe IV - nephrectomie unilaterale un jour avant l'exposition aux neutrons (320 a 328 rad); Groupe V - exposition aux mettrons seulement (200 a 320 rad). Parmi les souris du Groupe I, sacrifiees 12 a 16 mois apres l'exposition, 75% presentaient des hepatomes; ce taux atteignait 92% chez les souris du Groupe II. Par contre, des tumeurs du foie se sont produites chez 14% des souris exposees seulement aux neutrons (Groupe V) et chez 2,4% des souris exposees a une dose unique (500 rad) de rayons X de 250 kVcrete. On a observe des neoplasmes du rein chez pres de 100% des souris du Groupe IV, alors que ces lesions ont ete peu frequentes chez les souris temoins. Les auteurs etudient Inverted-Exclamation-Mark ' induction de ces neoplasmes sous l'effet de l'exposition aux neutrons et leur developpement sous l'action des agent employes pour stimuler la proliferation. En ce qui concerne l'induction de neoplasmes du rein chez les souris, les donnees indiquent un coefficient de puissance d'environ 2 pour les neutrons de fission par rapport aux rayons X de 250 kV-crete. Pour ce qui est de l'apparition de lymphomes dans cette lignee, leur frequence a ete moins importante chez les souris exposees aux neutrons (11%) que chez les sujets exposes aux rayons X (29%). (author) [Spanish] Los autores sometieron ratones jovenes adultos de la variedad LAF a una exposicion subletal unica a neutrones de fision, tratandolos de la siguiente forma: Grupo I: 195 a 199 rad, seguida de una sola inyeccion subcutanea de CCl{sub 4}, un mes despues de la exposicion; Grupo II: inyeccion de CCl{sub 4} aplicada un dia antes de la irradiacion neutronica (280 y 329 rad); Grupo III: inyeccion de CCl{sub 4} sin irradiacion; Gmpo IV: nefrectomfa unilateral un dia antes de la irradiacion (320 y 328 rad); Grupo V: irradiacion neutronica exclusivamente (200 y 320 rad). Al sacrificar los sujetos entre 12 y 16 meses a contar de la irradiacion, se encontraron hepatomas en el 75% de los ratones del Grupo I y en el 92% de los del Grupo II. En cambio, los tumores hepaticos aparecieron en el 14% de los ratones que solo fueron irradiados (Grupo V) y en el 2,4% de los expuestos a una dosis unica (500 rad) de rayos X de 250 kVp. En los ratones irradiados y sometidos a nefrectomia unilateral (Grupo IV), la frecuencia de neoplasmas renales se aproximo al 100%, mientras que en los animales testigo dichas lesiones fueron poco frecuentes. Los autores estudian la induccion de estos neoplasmas en lo que respecta a su iniciacion neutronica y su agravacion mediante el uso de determinados agentes estimulantes de la proliferacion. De los datos se desprende que, por lo que se refiere a la iniciacion de neoplasmas renales en el raton, los neutrones de fision son dos veces mas eficaces que los rayos X de 250 kVp. En cuanto a la formacion de linfomas en la misma variedad de ratones, la frecuencia en los sujetos irradiados con neutrones (11%) es menor que en los expuestos a los rayos X (29%). Chastota pojavlenija opuholej pochek priblizhalas' k 100% u obluchennyh myshej s odnostoronnej nefrjektamiej (gruppa IV ) , v to vremja kak takie porazhenija u kontrol'nyh myshej byli redkimi. Obsuzhdaetsja inducirovanie jetih novoobrazovanij pri primenenii nejtronnogo obluchenija i ispol'zovanii specificheskih proliferativnyh raz drazhitelej.
