Abstract

A study was made of the possibility of producing high thermal resistance graphite-silicon carbide materials by means of impregnating MG graphite with liquid silicon in a vacuum. An attempt is made to explain the mechanism and origins of the degradation of products during the impregnation process. On the basis of their researches the authors put forward a number of technical requirements, observance of which make it possible to produce graphite-silicon carbide materials by means of impregnation of graphite with liquid silicon-in a vacuum at temperatures of 1450 to 1600 deg. C.
