Abstract
Based on an arrogant idea that nature would exclusively serve as a source for its own desires, the humanity has always developed an anthropocentric position in its relationship with nature. From the emergence of capitalism and Industrial Revolution, the economy assumes the position of the worst environmental destroyer. However, this conflict between economy and natural environment could not last anymore. Therefore, The appearance of an 'environmental consciousness' on international level had become something inevitable. From this new ecological mentality, countries started to develop a primal environmental legislation, witch culminated, into a process called 'Constitutionalization of environment protection'. In this framework, Brazil produced, in 1988, a Constitution that is considered one of the world's most modern in terms of natural resources protection, turning this subject into a constitutional principle and a fundamental right. This new perspective of environmental defense brought, invariably, many benefits to the maintaining of an ecologically balanced ecosystem. Finally, the world's ecological concept has also changed since industries started to note that environmental policies could generate more profits and turn them more competitive companies. (author)
