Abstract
The experience of PETROBRAS's performance, when the implantation of the province of Urucu, in the City of Coari, state of Amazon, was constructed on empirical bases and it had as a support landmark the lines of direction dictated in 1988 for famous scientists who acted directly in the Amazon Region. The application of these lines of direction gave support to the implantation of essential activities, such as a fishery of changes, the recovery of sanded small rivers, prevention of spills and the opening of chances for research in that further and little known basin of the Urucu River. The convergence was that PETROBRAS made use of the logistic that the scientists needed; and they made use of the knowledge that the company needed. It was just necessary to adjust the language. The results had been very effective and the province of Urucu became the pioneer and the most expressive unit in environmental management in PETROBRAS. In 1999 the Project PIATAM was implanted: Potential Impacts and Risks of the Transport of Oil and Gas in Amazon, taking care of demands of the future transport of the natural gas to Manaus for gas-pipeline, that became possible in 2003 thanks to the support

In the construction phase, one more time the integration with the scientific community was essential to guarantee the application of the concepts of environment in the workmanship of the Gas-pipeline Urucu - Manaus, with advising of teams from the INPA, like Limnology and of combat the tropical illnesses, as the malaria. Another point of support was the partnership with the Secretariat of Sustainable Development of Amazon in an Accord of application of resources, in 135 communities of the area of influence of the workmanship.
