Characterization of fresh and irradiated domestic nuclear graphite; Karakterizacija neozracenog i ozracenog domaceg nuklearnog grafita

Abstract

This report shows results of testing the quality of domestic impregnated graphite IGSP-05, and irradiated domestic graphite IGSP-01 as well as the new methos of characterization based on graphite oxidation by liquid agent. Systematic measurement of domestic impregnated graphite enabled conclusions related to its quality and further improvement. Domestic graphite is relatively well graphitized and its properties are approaching standard nuclear graphite, although it still shows some deficiencies. Important deficiencies are significant inhomogeneity and low density. The applied impregnation procedure did not improve significantly the quality of graphite, probably because the material which was impregnated had fine pores. To avoid this porosity it would be necessary to use material with higher granulation. Soot which was present in some blocks probably worsened the quality of graphite and caused dispersion of the obtained results. First tests of irradiated domestic graphite IGSP-01 showed that its behaviour does not differ from standard nuclear graphite in case of low doses. It is necessary to test its properties in case of higher neutron doses before drawing final conclusions. The new method of graphite oxidation by the N{sub 2}SO{sub 4} - Ag{sub 2}Cr{sub 2}O{sub 7} mixture which is highly sensitive on the existence of structural defects is based on detecting the oxidation rate of graphite by measuring the pressure of released CO{sub 2}. Application of the method for testing the domestic and American graphite showed that irradiation caused drastic changes of oxidation rates and similar behaviour of both graphite types. U ovom izvestaju su prikazani rezultati ispitivanja kvaliteta domaceg impregnisanog grafita IGSP-05, rezultati ispitivanja ozracenog domaceg grafita IGSP-01 i opisana je nova uvedena metoda karakterizacije zasnovana na oksidaciji grafita tecnim agensom. Sistematsko merenje osobina domaceg impregnisanog grafita je omogucilo donosenje zakljucaka o njegovom kvalitetu i daljem radu na njegovom poboljsavanju. Domaci grafit je relativno dobro grafitizovan i njegove osobine se priblizavaju standardnom nuklearnom grafitu, ali jos uvek ima znatne nedostatke. Osnovni nedostaci su znatna nehomogenost i mala gustina proizvoda. Primenjeni postupak impregnacije nije doveo do znatnijeg poboljsanja kvaliteta grafita, verovatno pre svega zato sto je materijal koji je podvrgavan impregnaciji sadrzao uglavnom fine pore. Da bi se izbegao ovakav spektar pora bilo bi potrebno primeniti polazni materijal krupnije granulacije. Cadj, koja je bila u sastavu nekih blokova, verovatno je doprinela vecoj disperziji rezultata, pogorsavajuci merene osobine grafita. Izvrsena prva ispitivanja ozracenog domaceg grafita IGSP-01 pokazuju da se njegovo ponasanje kod malih doza ne razlikuje od ponasanja standardnog nuklearnog grafita. Medjutim, pre donosenja definitivnih zakljucaka o ponasanju domaceg grafita pri ozracivanju neophodno je ispitati njegovo ponasanje pri ozracivanju znatno vecim neutronskim fluksevima. Nova uvedena metoda oksidacije grafita smesom H{sub 2}SO{sub 4} - Ag{sub 2}Cr{sub 2}O{sub 7} koja je vanredno osetljiva na prisustvo strukturnih defekata, zasnovana je na pracenju brzine oksidacije grafita merenjem pritiska oslobodjenog CO{sub 2}. Primena metode za ispitivanje domaceg i americkog grafita je pokazala da je kod oba grafita ozracivanje dovelo do drasticnih promena u brzini oksidacije i da se oba grafita podjednako ponasaju (author)}
