Abstract

The present work concerns the study of the electrical properties (thermoelectric power, electrical resistivity and Hall coefficient) of PbTe and SnTe crystals and of solid polycrystalline solutions of Pb{sub 1-x} Sn{sub x} Te (0.1 < x < 0.6) between 80 and 800 deg. K. From the temperature dependence of these properties and the effect of the addition, it has been possible to characterize the semiconductor nature of these solutions, and to approach their band structure; in particular the forbidden gap behaviour in these solutions has been analyzed and evidence for the existence of a double valence band has been obtained.
