Abstract
The effect of the complex 3D structure of imploding wire array Z-pinch plasmas on their X-ray power production is investigated using a 3D resistive MHD code. The break up of the wires at the start of the implosion is found to produce 'debris' which shunts the current away from the implosion and limits the level of plasma compression at stagnation and hence the radiative power.
