Abstract
Recent theoretical work has shown that the current of charge exchange ions to dust particles can be significant even when the mean free path greatly exceeds the Debye length. We have performed an experimental test of the theory, reformulated for cylindrical geometry, using cylindrical probes in partially ionized low-density argon plasma. The charge exchange current, found by subtracting the calculated OML current from the total current, agrees with the calculated value and has the expected dependences upon electron density, neutral pressure, and probe radius.
