NMR study on the metal-insulator transition of CuIr{sub 2}S{sub 4}

Abstract

We have investigated the metal-insulator transition of CuIr{sub 2}S{sub 4} using high resolution NMR measurements. The Cu-NMR spectra below T{sub MI} are broadened and split into four Cu signals with nuclear quadrupole interactions, confirming the existence of charge ordering of Ir{sup +3} and Ir{sup 4+} and the spin dimerization of Ir{sup 4+} spins, as revealed by a recent X- ray study.
