Abstract
Potassium di(1,1,1-trimethylolpropane)borate dihydrate of composition K[(C{sub 2}H{sub 5}CCH{sub 2}OH(CH{sub 2}O){sub 2}){sub 2}B] {center_dot} 2H{sub 2}O was synthesized for the first time. Its well-formed single crystals were obtained and studied by X-ray diffraction. The crystal structure is formed of K{sup +} cations, heterospiran complex anions [(C{sub 2}H{sub 5}CCH{sub 2}OH(CH{sub 2}O){sub 2}){sub 2}B]{sup -} (the boron to ligand ratio is 1 : 2), and molecules of coordination water. Two types of the K{sup +} ions are bound to seven-vertex and coordinated sevenfold by distorted octahedral arrays of the oxygen atoms of the complex anion and water molecules. The chemical composition of the compound was determined in the course of X-ray diffraction analysis.
