'Standby' electricity consumption of office buildings - Monitoring results from 32 buildings; 'Standby-Verbrauch' von Dienstleistungsgebaeuden. Verbrauchsmessungen an 32 Objekten

Abstract

This final report for the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) presents the results of electricity consumption measures made in 32 commercial buildings. The choice of the buildings that were examined is explained and project-specific definitions of operating times, time actually used and stand-by times are given. The results presented include typical and specific consumption characteristics and an estimate of expected stand-by losses. The results and, in particular, the discrepancy between the expected stand-by losses during the night and at weekends and the higher values actually measured are discussed. The influence of the buildings' energy characteristics, seasonal factors and level of automation are examined and the savings potential is estimated.
