Abstract
Research and development for creation of international standards had been under way for three years since fiscal 1998 for the sustenance and securement of Japan's technical advantage and for the enhancement of the international competitiveness of its industries. In the ultimate fiscal year for the project, studies were made for establishing standards relative to 13 subjects, involving the management of color reproduction, assurance of interoperability of optical disk systems, digital image processing for home-use digital electronic appliances, securement of connection between information devices for home-use electric appliances, production process system, method for testing and evaluating fine ceramics for communication equipment, method for evaluating high-temperature properties of new glass, method for testing and evaluating corrosion resistance of surface treated steel sheets, method for testing and evaluating pure titanium, method for testing and evaluating plastic optical fiber, method for evaluating properties of high-strength large-diameter steel pipe for ultrahigh-pressure natural gas pipeline, method for measuring fuel consumption of hybrid electric vehicles, method for calculating the recycling rate of automotive products, or the like. The fruits of 77% of the efforts have already been proposed as international standards or have arrived at a stage where they may be proposed as such. (NEDO)
