Servicing the oil and gas industry

Abstract

This Power Point presentation dealt with Dempster Energy Services (DES), which is an oilfield services corporation wholly owned by the Vuntut Development Corporation (VDC) and Nacho Nyak Dun Development Corporation (NNDDC), provides management, coordination, and administrative support for the activities related to the exploration activities taking place in north/central Yukon. Through DES, assistance is provided to companies for the fulfillment of the terms and obligations of the Impact Benefit Agreements. Access to local employment resources, assistance for training initiatives, and the provision of essential services are some of the services available at DES. It operates within the traditional territories of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation and the First Nation of Nacho Ny'ak Dun. The motivations behind the formation of Dempster were strength in numbers, elimination of duplication, additional control of activities in traditional territories, maximization of local employment, regional advantages, and the fulfillment of most Impact Benefits Agreements issues. The employment development facet emphasizes commitment, drug testing, education/testing, labour pool, placement with working partners, and entry level positions in the Yukon and outside.
